{"id":89,"date":"2014-11-19T13:04:28","date_gmt":"2014-11-19T13:04:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anne-askew.humanities.uva.nl\/?page_id=89"},"modified":"2019-07-08T13:50:24","modified_gmt":"2019-07-08T13:50:24","slug":"acknowledgements","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/anne-askew.humanities.uva.nl\/acknowledgements\/","title":{"rendered":"Acknowledgements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Founder and former Director of the <a title=\"School-Of-Cultural-Texts-and-Records\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jaduniv.edu.in\/view_department.php?deptid=135\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">School of Cultural Texts and Records<\/a>\u00a0(SCTR), Jadavpur University, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sukanta_Chaudhuri\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Professor Emeritus Sukanta Chaudhuri&#8217;<\/a>s\u00a0pioneering efforts in humanities computing in India lies at the root of this project. He trained a group\u00a0of\u00a0fresh-faced Jadavpur University postgraduates in the mysteries of electronic textual editing in 2003, gave them employment and invaluable experience in the preparation of his brainchild, the <a href=\"http:\/\/bichitra.jdvu.ac.in\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bichitra Online Tagore Variorum<\/a>,\u00a0in 2011\u20132013,\u00a0and encouraged them to undertake projects of their own thereafter. The present editor counts herself fortunate to have been one of them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This project has been funded by an European Commission Erasmus Mundus Action 2 EMINTE post-doctoral fellowship of nine months from India to the Netherlands. The SCTR,\u00a0headed by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Amlan_Das_Gupta\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Professor Amlan Das Gupta<\/a>,\u00a0granted research leave for that period (September 2014\u2013May 2015).\u00a0The researcher&#8217;s personal copy of Elaine Beilin&#8217;s scholarly edition of the texts was OCRed with the help of the School&#8217;s equipment and by its research fellows, especially Kawshik Ananda Kirtania and Amritesh Biswas. Purbasha Auddy and Shantanu Majee, also of the SCTR, provided much appreciated help and support.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr\u00a0<a title=\"Kristine Johanson\" href=\"http:\/\/www.uva.nl\/over-de-uva\/organisatie\/medewerkers\/content\/j\/o\/k.a.johanson\/k.a.johanson.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kristine Johanson<\/a> of the\u00a0Faculteit der Geesteswetenschappen\u00a0Capaciteitsgroep Engelse taal en cultuur (Faculty of Humanities\u00a0Department of English Language and Culture), University of Amsterdam, was the principal adviser of the project during this period. This website was hosted on the University of Amsterdam&#8217;s server by\u00a0<a title=\"Myrthe Bil\" href=\"http:\/\/www.uva.nl\/over-de-uva\/organisatie\/medewerkers\/content\/b\/i\/m.bil\/m.bil.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Myrthe Bil<\/a>\u00a0and she has been the principal technical adviser as well.
